Response to the public consultation of the European Commission on the action plan on accelerated roll-out of heat pumps across the EU

The European Commission’s initiative to try and remove current obstacles and restrictions for a quicker roll-out of heat pumps throughout the EU is welcomed by MARCOGAZ because of their high efficiency and use of cost-free renewable energy, which has the potential to significantly contribute to the CO2 emission and fossil fuel import reduction targets.

However, any efforts to hasten the roll-out of heat pumps should take into account the challenges that must be solved, particularly given the vast number of older buildings.

Instead of choosing a top-down single heating technology approach, Marcogaz thinks that concentrating on decarbonizing heating from the bottom up will enable considerably faster CO2 emission and fossil fuel import reductions while still meeting the same targets.
